Module 1 of 2: Emobied Safety
Date: August 2-3rd, 2025
Location: SPY Cincinnati
Prerequisite: 200 YTT
Time: Saturday and Sunday 9:30-5:00pm
In this two-day immersive experience, you will learn the importance of incorporating Trauma-Sensitie Yoga (TSY) principles into your classes. We will discuss the history of trauma-informed care, the prevalence of trauma, and different patterns of trauma, including PTSD, Complex and Developmental Trauma, and how prologned stress impacts our brain and perceptions as well as our physical health. Drawing on the Polyvagal Theory and other contemporary models of nervous system regulation, we'll explore what happens to the brain and organs when we experience shock or prolonged stress, and what that might look like in our classrooms and communities. You will experience evidence-based strategies for restoring a sense of safety and social engagement, including different styles of meditation and mindfulness practices. We'll also distinguish trauma-informed and trauma sensitive yoga from yoga therapy, and apply principles and techniques to make your classes more sensitive to the mental health needs of all students. This is the introductory course in a two-part series. Participation in this training is a prerequisite to module two.
Module 2 of 2: Restoring Rhythm & Resilience
Prequisite - Module 1
Date: September 27-28th, 2025
Location: SPY Cincinnati
Prerequisite: 200 YTT, Module 1
Time: Saturday and Sunday 9:30-5:00pm
The experience of trauma can impact an individual's ability to attune to their body's internal messages resulting in lack of self-regulation and feelings of helplessness. Yoga is shown to empower trauma-survivors by helping them reconnect with these sensations and take effective action in caring for themselves on and off the mat. In this two-day workshop, you'll learn how to guide students to notice and navigate a broader range of sensations and foster resilience. We'll also discuss the effects of trauma across the lifespan and effective strategies for designing trauma-sensitive classes for different age groups. You will experience and develop your own trauma-sensitive yoga sequences that integrate the grounding practices from module 1 with yoga poses taught in a typical class. The focus will be on teaching to sensation versus appearance, as well as, how to anchor the body and joints in safety to encourage rhythm and resilience.
